My Blog

letting off STEAM

What can you expect to read in my blog?

If you’re curious about science – especially neuroscience – fascinated by genetic genealogy, or a fan of  shows like Who Do You Think You Are, then you’re in the right place!

You’ll find a wide mix of topics spanning brain health, Alzheimer’s disease, genetics, genetic genealogy, adoption, identity, creativity, synchronicity, psychology, writing, research for writing, and more, organised into three main categories: Finding Dulcie, Decoding Alzheimers, and Our Awesome Brain.

Think of this blog as a Tiki Tour – a well-loved Kiwi expression for a journey where the destination isn’t always clear, but you’ll have a lot of fun along the way. So, have a fossick around, explore, enjoy, and hopefully discover something that inspires your own Tiki Tour.

Why letting off STEAM?

My writing will mostly be through a science lens – after all, I’m a life-long scientist – yes, that’s me above on my first birthday conducting a taste experiment on a beach spade. Hypothesis confirmed: sand tastes terrible!

I also happen to have a background spanning all four STEM fields: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Add my love for writing, and you get the Arts sneaking in to transform STEM into STEAM.

“Letting off steam” is a Kiwi expression for releasing bottled-up energy (in my case, ideas), and I can’t think of a better way to do that than through my two passions: science and writing.
